The idea was right under our noses

Holiday shopping can be chaotic for shoppers, especially if you’re hunting for the season’s hottest gifts. Walmart wanted to change that. So as part of our Joy. Fully. holiday campaign, we put Joy into holiday shopping in a never been done before way — with an AR experience that makes shopping as simple as a flashing a smile.

 

In a first with Facebook, we developed a shoppable lens that curates your gift list based on your joyful reaction.

The Joy Shop AR experience used facial expression recognition tech to let shoppers save gift ideas just by smiling, nodding, or saying “wow.” In-feed ads drove to the lens, and when users arrived they found an emoji face to guide the way. Each lens cycled through 10 gift ideas, and the the top 4 were saved in a shoppable set. Users could swipe straight from the lens to start knocking out their gift list at Walmart.

 

We created 5 lenses, each serving as a gift guide for every personality.
